I Built Mockup Maestro Because "Passive Income" Felt Like a Full-Time Nightmare.
How a solo developer and a dog built the ultimate POD cheat code.
From $0 to the "Old Grind"
Hi, I’m John.
When I lost my job in the film industry, Print on Demand was supposed to be my lifeline. I had the design skills. I spun up a Shopify store and connected Printify.
But the promise of "passive income" ended up feeling like minimum-wage data entry:
- Waiting for massive, confusing zip files of flat, spammy mockups to download.
- Calculating margin spreadsheets for Gildan 64000s over and over again.
- Spending 15 minutes per product manually clicking dropdowns to link every single image to the correct color variant.
"I spent an entire Canadian winter weekend manually mapping hundreds of 'Navy Blue' mockups out to 'Navy Blue' Shopify variants. My dog, Tina, was waiting patiently under my desk for a walk I didn't have time to give her. That’s when I realized: I didn’t leave my 9-to-5 just to create an even worse job for myself."
If I can't hire help, I'll code it.
Enter the first version of Mockup Maestro. A messy script designed to do my least favorite chore. We've come a long way since then.
No "Trusted by Millions" BS
You’ll see other tools claiming "100,000+ Users." That just means a bunch of people signed up, got confused by bloated software, and left. We optimize for a smaller crew of serious sellers. 99% stay because it actually works.
From 5 items a week to 100 in minutes.
I built this engine to automate the manual grind. Drag in a folder of raw designs and watch them appear perfectly centered, correctly placed, and properly mapped out to Shopify variants. No virtual assistants necessary.
1-On-1 Feature Development
If there’s an error, I fix it that night. If you need a specific POD feature, I build it. Think of the software as a co-developer for your storefront. We build features based strictly on whatever makes side-hustlers the most money.
The (Very Small) Team
John Moores
Founder & Lead Developer
The former animator applying high-end physics and processing standards to simple POD mockups. I write every line of code, un-jam the servers when things get crazy, and answer every support ticket myself. If things break, blame me.
Tina
Chief Morale Officer
A Rhodesian Ridgeback with frankly zero coding skills, but an incredible intuition for when it's time to log off. She ensures I step back to touch snow outside our Toronto HQ. She is the whole reason I built the "bulk-publish" button.
